Many questions and great interest in non-castration in Wallonia
On February 14, 2017 a meeting of the College des Producteurs Wallonie took place in Namur, (Belgium). Most important topic in the program was a discussion about whether or not castrating pigs should come to an end. Walloon pig farmers are very interested in the subject. Some doubt the usefulness and necessity, and there is uncertainty about the consequences. Pig farmers wonder, whether it is possible to maintain good meat quality. The question also lives whether and what measures are to be expected from the European Union. Dr. Gé Backus, director of Connecting Agri & Food outlined the current European and Dutch situation, developments and experiences after ending castration. A lively discussion followed with many question.
